FAQs

Can we keep the Tuna?

Bluefin tuna, shark, and swordfish are "catch and release" due to strict laws protecting these fish species.  However, every year there is a special quota released to keep up to 500kg of tuna, 1 fish per trip for sportfishermen.  This quota is bid upon before the season, usually May, and if accepted, it is paid for up front.   It is paid per kilo.  Guests can keep the fish for the cost of the bid as a reimbursement.

Are there commercial tuna fishermen in Croatia and whats the difference between commercial and sportfishing?

Yes, there are tuna commercial fisherman in Croatia, only about 10-15 boats.  They are allowed to keep about 10 tones per season.  However, guests are not allowed to keep any of the catch by law; they are only allowed to be sold to restaurants/registered companies.

Commercial fishing is mostly done out of the rod holder using heavier gear to minimize time, whereas in Sportfishing we battle the fish with a fighting belt.

Is all the gear included in the fishing trips, and do we need experience?

Yes, all gear, fishing licenses, and gas is included in the trips.  No fishing experience is needed! We are here to teach and guide all of our guests

Why are other charters a bit more expensive?

At Fishing Mania Charter we are located near the prime fishing grounds for tuna and other trophy species. Therefore the expenses for gas are far less than other charters.  For example, a boat operating out of Split would need 1-2 hours of driving to reach the fishing grounds whereas we would need 15-30 minutes
